MORE than 200 riders flocked to Tytherton, near Calne, to take part in the villages' annual fun day.

Families from as far as Wales came to the tiny village to take part in either a six or 12-mile course.

Although organisers were upset with the turnout they ploughed on and vowed to make the day as special as possible.

Volunteer Daphne Glass said: "Usually more than 400 riders come for the day, with a lot of them from Wales.

"But we think the poor weather in the weeks before the event put people off."

Last year organisers were forced to cancel the fun ride because of the weather but promised local riders the day would continue this year.

Organisers set up special courses away from muddy fields so the day would go ahead.

Mrs Glass said: "A number of riders vowed to return next year."

Organisers split the proceeds raised between churches in Bremhill, east Tytherton, Foxham and Wiltshire Air ambulance.

Mrs Glass said they were still counting the amount of money raised.

Next year's fun ride will be on March 29.
