Doorstep conman dupes pensioner
Police have appealed for witnesses after an elderly woman is thought to have had her purse stolen by a man offering gardening services.
The man called at the house in The Pippin, Calne, at around 9.30am this morning and persuaded the pensioner to let him in so he could write down his phone number.
But after he left the woman found that her purse was missing.
The man is described as in his mid-20s, with short dark hair, clean looking and respectably dressed.
He may possibly have called at the house last year and left a leaflet advertising Houseproud tree and garden services.
Anyone with information should contact PC Hans Monahan at Calne police station on 0845 408 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
