Police swoop on drug dealers' flat
 |
| Police Community Support Officer Gaynor Bake keeps watch outside Pym House after Friday's raid |
POLICE raided a flat in Calne after a gang of heroin users terrorised their neighbours with death threats and abuse.
Calne police broke into a flat in Pym House on the Colemans Farm Estate on Friday afternoon after residents complained of drug users ringing doorbells day and night, abusive behaviour from the occupiers of the flat and drug dealing.
Police made no arrests as the flat was deserted but seized used needles and drug paraphernalia.
Sgt Mark Rees of Calne police said: "These people had been making their neighbours' life a misery. Westlea workers were intimated and after obtaining a warrant the police raided the property.
"We seized some stolen property, needles they used to inject the heroin and drug paraphernalia.
"Any reports of drug use or threatening behaviour are taken very seriously. We aim to act on any information or intelligence given to us."
A Westlea resident, who lives on the Colemans Farm estate, said: "These people gave their neighbours hell.
Drug addicts would ring the buzzer day and night looking for their next fix."
The man, who refused to be named, said: "It is so dangerous to live there. I have heard rumours of stabbings and needles being found all over the building.
"If you speak to anyone at any agency they will say the drug problem in Calne is no worse than any other town but it is getting worse.
"People are openly dealing. Everyday the caretaker removes used needles from the covered bin area."
Police said the gang had forced the original tenant to leave his flat and were squatting illegally.
After the raid Westlea Housing Association boarded up the flat and secured the building.
A Westlea employee, who lives on Colemans Farm, said: "About six weeks ago an internal memo was sent round to staff warning them not to enter this building at any cost after someone threatened to kill a member of staff.
"We were told under any circumstances not to go to this building because it was too dangerous.
"If any of the other tenants needed help they had to report it by phone."
A spokesman for Westlea said: "Westlea has been working very closely with the police to tackle this situation.
We have now secured the flat and are pleased that the people who had been living this property illegally, causing a real nuisance to other residents, are now gone.
"As part of our commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour, Westlea has dedicated anti-social behaviour officers who work with residents and partnership agencies to reduce and resolve anti-social behaviour issues whenever they occur."

Decent, hardworking people cannot find anywhere affordable to live these days!.... but its like, smack heads and teenage mums get places with a click of the fingers! while im out working all hours, these wasters are sat in a flat (which were paying for)injecting themselves with smack! got it to easy if you ask me! about time something was done about this Crappy country!

i agree with what you are saying calne girl 1, but if you read the article, they were illegal squatters. People like these junkies make me sick, i used to live at colemans farm in one of those tenant blocks looking after my seriously ill mother, some skagg heads moved in upstairs and within a couple of months my mother couldn't take any more and left, purely because of the noise, the needles just dropped in the walkways, and the constant people in and out at all times of the night. Westlea eventually evicted them on noise nusiance, rather than they were junkies and had dealers around at all hours. The country has gone soft, let them all go cold turkey and put them in prison, as opposed to giving them methadone that all of us workers pay for in the long run. I would say ALL of the junkies on methadone in calne still go and get their fix from their dealers straight afterwards. As for housing them, whats wrong with prison for the likes of them?

I guess a non-white unmarried mother who is a drug pusher gets the most points for housing.
