Calne youth hit with airgun pellet

A Calne youth has injured his eye after being hit with an airgun pellet.

The 15 year old was walking with a friend in Castle Fields, Calne when he felt a sharp pain in his eye.

He initially thought that someone had thrown a stone or similar object at him.

On returning home he was taken to hospital by his mother, where it was established that the injury had been caused by an airgun pellet.

The youth required surgery to his eye, and this was carried out at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, the following day.

Fortunately, the airgun pellet was not lodged in the eye, and the youth was allowed home following the surgery.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have information about the incident which took place about 100 yards from the cattle grid in Castle Fields to contact them.

Constable Sarah PULMAN, from Calne police is appealing for help from the public in an effort to trace who was responsible for this offence, as follows:

  • Anyone in the vicinity of Castle Fields, Calne on the 29th February, and who saw a person in possession of an air weapon,
  • Anyone who may have been subject to a similar, previous incident,
  • Anyone who has knowledge of anyone living in that area who owns an air weapon,
to contact her as soon as possible on 0845 408 7000, or if preferred, anonymous information may be left by ringing Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
