RIENDS of Little Star Alyssa Lenton-Jinks have praised her courage and determination in battling a rare type of cancer.
The six-year-old, of Carp Close in Calne, was presented with a national cancer award on Wednesday in front of her classmates at St Edmunds RC Primary School in Calne.
Her mother Alison, 35, nominated Alyssa for the Little Star Cancer Research award for her bravery in fighting a rare type leukaemia.
Alyssa was diagnosed with acute biphenotypic leukaemia two years ago.
She was presented with a certificate signed by her hero Kylie Minogue.
Alyssa lost her hair twice during her treatment but was cheered up by hospital staff, who gave her pictures of the superstar who was fighting breast cancer.
Alyssa's eight-year-old brother John also received a certificate and a Little Star key ring.
Her classmates spoke of Alyssa's ability to make them smile.
Fellow student Taylor Maddock said: "She is always very kind and plays with us a lot."
Friend Thomas said he admired Alyssa because she is a nice person who always plays with him even if she is feeling ill.
All her 27 classmates agreed they were happy Alyssa was back at school and classmate Ellie Warren said she particularly missed playing Snakes and Ladders with her friend.
Class teacher Kelly Rees said: "Alyssa is the most happy little girl.
"Although she has been through such a difficult experience she always has a smile and makes us happy.
"She is always willing to work enthusiastically in class and does her best to keep up even though she has had to miss a lot.
"I am thrilled she has been given this award to acknowledge what a little star she is."
Alyssa cannot go to school full time for a number of months because of risk of infections, but she is still in contact with her friends.
Her mother Alison said: "When she was given the award I was very moved. I am extremely proud of her. She has just finished her treatment and now we have to wait six weeks to see if Alyssa's blood shows any signs of cancer.
"I have spoken to Alyssa about what to do if it comes back but I know Alyssa and she would take it in her stride.
"Alyssa is such a sociable child and children seek her out and love playing with her."
