The fence by the cemetery has been repainted over the last couple of week. I say 'has' but the work is still going on. My assumption is that the workers are on a community service programme. There's eight or more at any one time with a supervisor - you can tell because that's written in gig letters on the back of their high visibility jacket. No-one would pay for their work rate.
But if it gives them a sense of civic pride - a stake in society - then that can only be a good thing. Better than just banging people up, I'd have thought. If it works, we've got a rehabilitated citizen. If it doesn't., there are other options available. But this is a good first step for non-violent offenders. And the cemetery fence will look much better. Eventually.
Alternatively some thieving toe rag or violent delinquent has got away with a couple of weeks of easy painting for his crimes. Hardly going to make him thing again before he goes back to his evil ways.
