Free WI-FI available at council offices and libraries

Free WI-FI is now available at a number of Wiltshire Council offices and libraries as it seeks to improve connectivity in the county.

As part of its Wiltshire Online programme, Wiltshire Council has rolled out free wireless internet in some of its libraries and public offices.

Anyone with a WI-FI enabled laptop, tablet or smart phone can visit one of these venues and browse the internet for free.

Council offices with a free connection include Monkton Park in Chippenham and Snuff Street in Devizes, as well as the libraries in Amesbury, Bradford on Avon, Calne, Corsham, Melksham, Pewsey and Trowbridge.

John Thomson, cabinet member for communities said:  “As we mark national get online week it is apparent access to the internet is increasingly important in today’s society. 

“As more and more organisations develop their online services, we want our communities to have access to a computer and feel confident with the basics of what it can offer, including the internet. By offering free computer support and WI-FI we are removing the barriers to Wiltshire getting online.”

More support is available through Wiltshire Online’s Digital Champions volunteers who can offer advice, information and support to small groups of adults in their local communities who want to get online and learn how to use a computer.
