Devizes preparing to bloom again

Schools and nurseries in Devizes are being invited to get involved in the town’s annual effort to win an award in the South West in Bloom competition.

Devizes and Roundway are still buzzing with the thrill of retaining their gold award this year and are already looking to better it in 2013 by striving to win the cup for their category, which this year went to Truro in Cornwall.

A meeting takes place at the town hall at 6pm today, and teachers from the local area have been invited to meet members of the committee.

The town council’s civic administrator, Elanor Oddy, said: “Two members of the committee, who are retired teachers, feel that bringing teachers, parents and teaching assistants together to share ideas about encouraging children to grow plants and be environmentally aware would be helpful to educational establishments.”

An open meeting will follow at 7pm in the council chamber when people who have taken part in the competition can make suggestions for next year.
