Dauntsey Lunch Club had its official launch last week with a promising number of visitors, including Wiltshire Council’s deputy leader.
At a Malmesbury Area Board meeting earlier this year, Coun John Thomson, who attended the launch, expressed his intent to see Wiltshire Council facilities used as much as possible; especially school buildings.
The lunch club meets at 11.45am on the fourth Wednesday of each month at Brinkworth Earl Danby’s School.
Organiser of the club and Good Neighbour co-ordinator Ellen Blacker said: “We had 18 people for lunch. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the children had a lot of fun. It was really pleasant to see.
“I suppose in theory it’s for people who are at home during the day so older or retired people, but home-workers are too and they can feel isolated. We won’t turn anyone away.
“We had three or four trials to test and they all went well so we launched the lunch club. The staff at the school have been very supportive. It’s a large school but a community school so we’re very pleased to be with them.”
