The headteacher of Redland Primary School in Chippenham has vowed to keep improving the school after it received a fantastic Ofsted report.

Hilary Walton said staff, parents and children had been thrilled with the results of their inspection, which was sprung on them close to the end of last term.

The report found that the school is good with many outstanding features, and it is hoped that on the inspector’s next visit Redland will warrant an ‘outstanding’ result.

Mrs Walton said: “It’s very impressive, and it certainly highlights our achievements.

“We have been good for the last 12 or 13 years, and we keep getting that bit better every time. The inspector said they hope the report could give us the skills and pointers to move up to outstanding.

"We are really delighted with how it went, particularly because it was so close to the end of the summer term. We got the call on a Friday, and they came on a Tuesday, which was all very speedy, but we’re really pleased with the result.”

Mrs Walton said the school is now “back up the full throttle” as Christmas approaches. “Now we have to maintain and improve on our results,” she said.

“We are not going to rest on our laurels, and we won’t be sitting back to have a breather – it’s straight on. We will continue on this road and ensure our school is an excellent place to be. We want to ensure the children reach their fullest potential, as well as having fun learning.”

The school, which is based in one of the most deprived areas of the town, had 290 pupils enrolled at the time of the inspection.

Mrs Walton said: “We are located in a ward with its own set of challenges, but we’re very lucky to have tremendous support from every single one of the parents.

“Without exception, they are 100 per cent behind us. We have incredibly hard-working and committed staff too.”

The report said: “Behav-iour is good in lessons and around the school, as are attitudes to learning.

“Relationships between pupils and staff are strong, with pupils feeling safe and keen to learn.”

It also found that: “Teaching is good and there are examples of outstanding teaching, especially in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Lessons are planned well with activities that meet the needs of different groups of pupils.”

Jane Scott, leader of Wiltshire Council, visited the school upon hearing of their results.

She said: “I was delighted to visit Redland School. I am so pleased that once again they have achieved a good Ofsted report. It is a lovely school as the children are always so happy and hard working.

“Congratulations to everyone involved for another fabulous Ofsted report.”
