Devizes woman’s feet hurt in bedroom fire

Devizes firefighters had a busy night on Saturday, when they were called to two house fires, one after the other.

Their first shout came at 10pm, at a house in the Green Lane area of the town, where fire had broken out in a bedroom. A woman, who had suffered burns to her feet, was rescued from the property and recovered after receiving treatment.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

As soon as the crews had dealt with the Green Lane incident they were called to a house in High Street, Great Cheverell.

A shed, used as an office, was found to be alight.

Pip Flowers, commander of Devizes fire station, said: “Because the householder’s bedroom is the other side of the house from the shed, he was the last to know about the fire. Neighbours sounded the alarm.”

Although the crews were able to dowse the flames, the shed was completely destroyed. The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
