Barracks family day proves a hit

There was fun for all ages during Colerne Station Families’ Day which took place at The rugby field at the village’s Azimghur Barracks on Saturday.
The base, home to the 21st Signal Regiment (Air Support) since 1992, was brimming with attractions including vintage cars, military vehicles, bouncy castles, ferret racing and a sheep dog display.
Around 500 people attended the annual event which was opened up to the people of Colerne to mark the regiment’s 20th year in the village.
The Regiment’s Comm-anding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Andy Aitken, said: “Military life means that families and friends have to put up with separation, inconvenience and uncertainty so we hold this event in thanks for this support.
“We are also extremely grateful for the support offered by the local community.”
The Gooseberry Bush Day Nursery based at the barracks also had a stall at the event. Curriculum manager, Natalie Baker, said: “All the shows were great but the best thing about the day was that it strengthened links with the local community.”
