Canvassing art’s talent at Corsham
2:00pm Sunday 23rd September 2012 in News By Craig Jones
Aspiring artists have an opportunity to have their work exhibited and potentially win cash prizes as part of The Pound’s 2012 Open Exhibition.
The annual competition, now in its fifth year, aims to reward Wiltshire’s budding artists and help to develop their careers.
A first prize of £500 is followed by the Goldfish Bowl Gallery & Right Angle Framing prize of £250, the People’s Prize of £150 and the Corsham Print Prize, which will see 1,000 colour postcards made of one of the artists’ work.
Martin Campbell, from The Pound, said: “This is a good opportunity for people who have not had their work exhibited before to have their pieces seen by a wider audience.
“We are really keen to support Wiltshire’s artists in this competition. There are some stipulations, but it is open to all.
“We’d like to see a variety of entries, so painters, sculptors, photographers and ceramicists are all welcome to apply, as well as any other types of artists.”
The deadline for submitting entries is Friday, October 26.
Entries will be judged by a panel who will decide the winners and choose the artwork to be displayed in the arts centre as part of the competition’s exhibition, which runs from Saturday, November 3 until Wednesday, December 19.
Artists are allowed to submit up to three pieces of their own work and all entries must be able to be sold if someone takes an interest in them during the exhibition.
The winner of the People’s Prize will be decided by public votes and announced during the exhibition.
