Box scoops award as a top quality village
10:00am Sunday 23rd September 2012 in News
Box has taken second place as the county’s Best Kept Large Village in the Campaign to Protect Rural England competition, behind Hilperton.
The village had previously taken top spot in the North Wiltshire section of the competition and was further recognised for its efforts in the advanced stage of the competition.
The campaign acknowledges the efforts of village parish councils and their residents to maintain their community to a high standard.
Box Parish Council clerk Margaret Carey said: “We are really thrilled to be given this award as it is very difficult for us in a competition like this, in comparison to quieter villages, due to the fact that we have the main A4 coming through Box.
“The competition focuses on the village as a whole and how the facilities are maintained and ensuring there is no litter on the streets.
“This really is something for everyone to celebrate and be proud of.”
Mrs Carey is waiting to hear from CPRE to organise a celebration of their achievements and the presentation of a cheque for £75.
