Wiltshire Air Ambulance helpers reach for the sky

Supporters of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance are training for a trek to climb the highest mountain in Morocco.

Sixteen people will be taking part in the challenge on October 1 which, it is hoped, will raise more than £15,000 for the air ambulance charity. This is the second trek to Morocco organised by the charity. Last year’s raised more than £25,000.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s head of fundraising Caroline Corrigan said: “This year’s team are made up of people from around the county and over the last six months the team have had lots of fundraising activity to help reach the target amount.

“Daniel Williams (of Great Cheverell) and Dominic Walmsley (of Market Lavington) signed up after Daniel’s sister Jessica was treated by the crew on board the air ambulance last Christmas. Jessica made a great recovery and has since been into the unit to see us.

“Dan and Dominic held a sponsored cycle ride whilst dressed as Smurfs to raise their funds and so far have raised £3,000. The whole team have worked so hard with their training and fundraising that the crew here at Air Support Unit are extremely humbled.”

The trek comes at the end of National Air Ambulance week which allows businesses and schools to arrange a fun event that raises funds for their air ambulance.
