Wiltshire Roller Derby wants to recruit new players
5:07pm Monday 10th September 2012 in News By Staff reporter
Wiltshire Roller Derby is recruiting new skaters to join their beginner’s classes.
The weekly hour long beginner’s sessions start on Thursday September 13 at Isambard Community School, Swindon at 7pm.
Roller derby is a team sport played on quad roller skates and involves full contact. Over the next 12 weeks new skaters will be taught everything they need to know to play roller derby and will then be invited to join the main league to compete in bouts against other leagues from across the country.
Head of coaching Dani Mawby said: “The beauty of derby is you don’t have to be super athletic to be part of this strong community sport. It doesn’t matter your size, strength or speed there’s always a place for you on a derby team and it’s a great way to improve your fitness too."
Skaters must be aged 18 or over. The league is also recruiting male skaters as referees. If you’re interested in becoming a roller girl or just want to find out more, visit www.wiltshirerollerderby.co.uk or contact us at wiltshirerollerderby@gmail.com
