Devizes economic health test

The economic health of Devizes is to be evaluated to see how it compares with other market towns in Wiltshire.

The town council and Devizes Community Area Partnership have formed a steering group to progress the project under the Action for Market Towns scheme.

Town councillor Peter Evans said: “This scheme will enable us to find out what’s wrong with the town, what we can do to solve any problems, and will provide a comparison with other market towns of a similar size.”

There are 12 key performance indicators relating to the town centre that will be scrutinised.

These include the number of vacant business units, profile of multiple and local retailers, zone A rents, car parking usage and surveys of businesses, town centre users and shoppers.

The town council will carry out the town centre users survey on September 20.
