Corsham's famous town lion is now gleaming in gold thanks to a champion design by a Corsham Primary School student.

The lion statue, in the pathway of the Martingate Centre, has had a summer makeover to mark the Olympic Games courtesy of eight-year-old Toni Sutton.

The Corsham Primary School student won a competition to redesign the lion beating 634 other local children, from schools in Corsham, Shaw, Neston and Box.

The competition was organised by Sue Witt, whose shop The Toy Box, is based in the Corsham shopping centre.

Mrs Witt, who painted the lion, said: “He looks stunning thanks to Toni’s fabulous design.”

Toni saw the lion last Wednes-day, when Great Britain won its first gold medals of the Games.

All 635 submissions have been on display in shop windows around the town as part of an Olympic exhibition.
