Sherston fire family given temporary home

Just days after Liz Walker and son Ryan lost their Sherston home to a blaze, housing association Sovereign will present them with the keys to their new bungalow.

The pair, who were fortunately out shopping when the fire took hold at their home in Butlers Close on Tuesday, will stay in the bungalow in North End Gardens while repairs are taking place.

The blaze broke out in an upstairs bedroom at around 5.15pm on Tuesday, taking hold quickly and causing total devastation to the property.

Fire crews from across the county, including Malmesbury, Swindon, Stratton and Corsham, as well as Yate and Cirencester, battled for six hours against the flames.

But the community has rallied around Mrs Walker and her son, with offers of places to stay and free furniture, and a Wiltshire Council spokesman says she wants to “shout from the rooftops” about the support she has received.

They will pick up the keys to the bungalow tomorrow morning.
