Calne Motorcycle Meet takes place this weekend and one of the many people to benefit will be teenager Ollie Gibbs.

Ollie, 16, was recently diagnosed with Rasmussen’s Encephalitis, a degenerative brain condition.

He is due to undergo brain surgery later this year and will need intense rehabilitation.

His mum Jane is trying to raise money for a hoist so Ollie, a pupil at St Nicholas School, in Chippenham, can get full use of a hot tub he has at home.

Their cause has been taken on by Wiltshire Bikers, a social group of riders from around the county.

They will be represented at the show and will spend the rest of the year fundraising for Ollie.

Mrs Gibbs, of Cornflower Close, Calne, said: “It came about through a mutual friend, who also has a child at St Nicholas. She knew I was struggling to get the hoist and got in touch with the Wiltshire Bikers.

“One of the group, Neil Hudd, came round to meet me and Ollie and said they would take us on for the year. We are so grateful to them because having the hoist and being able to use the hot tub would be so beneficial to Ollie.”

Mr Hudd, Wiltshire Bikers’ PR officer, said: “I spoke to everyone on our online forum about it and they all agreed we should get involved with Ollie.

“I had a chat with Jane and she was happy for us to help. She has been raising money for people in various capacities for years and it is about time someone did something for her and her family.”

The motorcycle meet takes place on Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

It is being organised by both the Rotary Club and the Lions Club for the first time.

An estimated 4,000 bikers are expected to descend on the town. The meet generates tens of thousands of pounds for the local economy and raises thousands of pounds for local charities. There will be trade stalls, live music and ride-outs all day.
