Award-winning poet, author, playwright, screenwriter and Olympiad collaborator Simon Armitage
Marlborough LitFest has announced another distinguished addition to its 2012 line-up. The award-winning poet, author, playwright, screenwriter and Olympiad collaborator Simon Armitage will bring the festival to a close on Sunday, September 30.
He will be talking about his recent works at the event, which starts on September 28.
Other writers taking part will include Iain Banks, Howard Jacobson, Michael Frayne and Judith Kerr.
Mr Armitage was awarded a CBE for services to poetry in 2010 and he is London’s Southbank Centre Artist in Residence.
As part of 2012’s Cultural Olympiad the writer is spearheading a week-long poetry festival, Poetry Parnassus, at London’s Southbank Centre.
Each of the poets will take part in readings, workshops and a gala event, contributing a poem in their own language for a poetry collection called The World Record, which will champion poetry in translation.
Catalogues and tickets for Marlborough LitFest events are available via its website www.marlboroughlitfest.org, from the White Horse Bookshop or by calling the box office on (01249) 701628.
Principal sponsors of the festival are the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society, Brewin Dolphin and Hiscox Insurance.
