Caffe Nero, the national chain of coffee houses, is to open up in the former Curry's store in The Brittox, Devizes.
Wiltshire Council received a planning application for a new shopfront and signage and for listed building consent this week, but no application for a change of use from retail to catering.
If the plan is approved, it will bring to 20 the number of cafes and restaurants in the centre of the town.
A design and access statement received from Caffe Nero said: "The new (proposed) shopfront has a far more traditional feel to it than the one it will replace and will, in our opinion, enhance the street scene and sit well with the rest of the building.
"Caffe Nero's philosophy... strives for excellence in all areas in order to achieve their aim. Their aim is also to be part of and integrate into the local environment and culture."
Controversy still surrounds the company's Marlborough premises, which opened before planning permission had been granted.
