Police arrested two suspected drug dealers and seized a hoard of illegal substances at a raid in Cherhill.

Officers hit the address in Potters Field early on Thursday morning, in an operation led by Calne’s neighbourhood policing team, working with armed officers and the Wiltshire Police dog unit.

The front door of the property was smashed in and the two inhabitants detained.

Police searched the property and found significant amounts of various types of what are thought to be class A, B and C drugs, which were sent off for forensic examination.

Among the collection was an amount of herbal cannabis and a huge collection what is thought to be prescription medication.

They also found drug paraphernalia and items which suggested the pair could be dealing.

Sergeant Phil Connor, of Calne Police, said: “We arrived at around 8.25am and the door was forced open.

“The male and female occupants were secured and detained. We carried out a thorough search of both them and the property.

“We have found an extremely large quantity of what initially appears to be prescribed drugs. There was also a large quantity of unidentified tablets and a quantity of herbal cannabis.

“We also found drug paraphernalia which indicated the misuse of class A drugs and equipment, including scales, which indicated possession of drugs with intent to supply.”

A 39-year-old man and 36-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled substances with intent to supply. They were taken to Melksham custody suite and investigations are ongoing.

Sgt Connor thanked the community for their support.

He said: “This warrant came about as a result of community intelligence.

“We would encourage the community to continue to provide any information they might have or any suspicions they have got of drug dealing or drug use.

“They can either call Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 and we will always look at any information we receive.”
