Big walk to aid air medics
11:00am Sunday 3rd June 2012 in News
A group of colleagues are taking on a near-100 mile walking challenge in aid of Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Workers from Bex Design, at Porte Marsh Industrial Estate, Calne, as well as one of their suppliers, will walk 97 miles from Yatton Keynell to London.
Its managing director, Ian Board, along with quality rep Mel Rowden and Ben Johnson, a supplier from Bristol firm Robert Horne, estimate it will take them 194,000 steps to reach Hyde Park Corner.
The challenge came about after Mr Board spotted the ancient mileage marker at Yatton Keynell, confirming the distance.
Ms Rowden said: “Ian decided he wanted to do something epic and roped us in.
“We looked for a local charity to support, that would benefit from fundraising.
“Every one of us knew someone who has been helped by the air ambulance at some point so we thought that was a natural choice.”
Bex Design is a printing company and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
The team have been putting in the training hours ahead of Monday’s walk.
Ms Rowden said: “I have never done anything like this before so I am expecting it to be tough – it is the equivalent of walking a marathon every day for four days.
“We had set ourselves a target of raising £2,500 but we have already got past that. We would be delighted if anyone would like to sponsor us.”
