Rumours of 'secret' big name appearances continue
10:47am Saturday 26th May 2012 in News
Only a handful of tickets are left for the star studded concert at the Kings Arms pub, All Cannings, this afternoon.
The show is raising money for cancer charities and features musicians including Brian May, Kerry Ellis, Midge Ure, The Sweet, Mike & The Mechanics and Tom Robinson.
Rumours of other big name appearances have been circulating and the concert website today included the statement: “Certain artist’s contractual obligations with other events in the south west means we are not allowed to announce that they WILL be performing at this concert.”
A spokesman for the Wadworth Visitor Centre in New Park Street, Devizes, said: “We have two books of tickets left, with 50 in each book, and must be collected.”
Organisers had originally said that no tickets will be available on the concert site but some will now be available at entrance ‘B’. They have to be paid for by cash or cheque with a banker’s card.
Anyone wanting to pay by credit card must go to the brewery’s visitor centre, which can be contacted on (01380) 732277.
The entertainment starts at 2pm with the Dave Kelly Blues Band and goes on until 10.30pm with more information at www.concertatthekings.co.uk

AS for the lack of surprise artists, despite Jamie from the SAS Band often saying we have some surprises for you later no one who was not on the published artist list was seen on stage. Now I may be cynical but if you want to sell loads of tickets why not boost the promotion for the event by spreading a few rumours about possible appearances by big names, also putting on the web site that " Other artists who cannot be named due to other commitments in the South West WILL ( notice the capital will) appear." I heard names like Paul McCartney and Tom Jones hinted at. Yea Right! Good bit of subterfuge promotion, but it didn't matter those who were there did a fantastic job. The highlights for me were The Sweet, Midge Ure, Dave Kelly, Brian May and Madeline Bell, but I repeat that is just my personal choices.

I'll feel fairer about it when they take some action to announce that they won't try the same again next year, and they'll move aside and let someone else do a better job.

I’m sure that the Waddies Beer Festival this weekend will be a well-run affair and that those who go will have a great time.
I do worry if some of you come to the Devizes Beer Festival in July and find that your favourite beer has sold out. I could be lynched

Its pretty safe to assume they didn't loose money, they might not have made as much as they could, but a loss, I doubt it.
Would you be prepared to bet £85 that they wouldn't do a repeat performance? Because I wouldn't. We all make mistakes its true, but its how you deal with it that counts.
I'm not at all sure their Beer festival will be well run, but I hope you have a nice time there regardless.

They've set a very strong example of how badly organised they can be and treated a huge crowd to a rough deal. I've also observed their dealings with several local pubs over the past 5-10 years and I wouldn't say they have left an impressive trail.
More local competition from other brewers and free houses might be a helpfull thing. Then we might really see if they know what they're doing.
