Devizes Wharf flats plan blow

Devizes Town Council has objected to the latest planning application by McCarthy & Stone for retirement apartments at The Wharf.

After it lost at appeal for a previous scheme the developer has submitted a new application to build 37 apartments, two fewer, and increased the parking spaces from 13 to 15.

The developer lost the appeal because of the height of the eastern block of the apartments and this has been reduced in the new application.

But the town council’s planning committee, which met on Tuesday night, was unimpressed with the new application and agreed to object. Councillors said it would be over development of the site, car parking spaces are insufficient and the Wharf should not be developed piecemeal.

They also called for the application to go to Wiltshire Council’s Eastern area planning committee for determination.
