Devizes MP Claire Perry says she is delighted with the Prime Minister’s decision to go along with a recommendation to consult on making internet users ‘opt in’ to see pornographic content.
Mrs Perry has joined in a national campaign to protect children from access to the most hardcore images of a sexual nature that, she says, are easily accessed.
A report on the subject recommends the government should launch a formal consultation on the introduction of an ‘opt-in’ content filtering system for all internet accounts in the UK.
The report said: “The most effective way to reduce overall development cost and create the most flexible solution would be for ISPs (internet service providers) to work together to develop a self-regulated solution.”
David Cameron has approved this recommendation and Mrs Perry, who chaired the parliamentary inquiry into online child protection that produced the report, said: “I am delighted the Prime Minister is showing his commitment to protecting our children online.
“Our report made a number of key recommendations, including asking the government to lead a formal consultation into opt-in filtering of adult content and the team is really pleased our work has paid off.
“We know families across Britain will welcome this news.”
