More top names announced for Devizes charity concert

More top musicians and singers, including Tom Robinson and Patti Russo, have been announced to perform at a charity concert in All Cannings.

The concert will feature The Strawbs, The Wurzels, The Sweet and the Dave Kelly Blues Band.

The finale will be The SAS Band, which features an array of star performers.

The band is led by Queen’s keyboardist and musical director Spike Edney. He will be joined by Tom Robinson, whose hits included 2-4-6-8 and War Baby; Patti Russo, who has sung with Cher in Las Vegas and with Meatloaf; Chris Thompson who was part of Manfred Mann’s Earth Band and Madeline Bell, a soul and jazz singer who has sung backing vocals for stars including Joe Cocker and Tom Jones.

The concert is in a field at the back of the Kings Arms pub, All Cannings, on Saturday May 26.

It aims to raise £50,000 for Cancer Research UK and make a substantial donation to Above & Beyond, the charity that raises funds for Bristol’s nine central hospitals. In addition, a donation will be made towards new playground equipment in All Cannings.

The concert has been organised by John Callis, of Beechingstoke, who is a sound engineer for Sir Paul McCartney, and Richard Baulu, landlord of the Kings Arms.

Both Mr Callis, 52, and Andy Scott, guitarist with The Sweet and who lives in All Cannings, have been treated for prostate cancer at hospitals in Bristol.
