A large Victorian dolls house believed to be modelled on a Lacock building is going under the hammer at The Chippenham Auction Rooms about 40 years after it was originally sold there.

Little else is known about the house, designed by Spye Park carpenters.

During the 1970s, the dolls house was sold by the same auction company but no files can be found to discover how much it fetched.

Staff at the auction rooms are hopeful that potential buyers might have more information about the house’s history.

Richard Edmonds, from the auction rooms, said: “It is quite possible there might be someone out there who will come forward and give us some more history about this exquisite dolls house.

“We had a similar situation a few months ago with a clock and someone came forward, so hopefully that could happen again.

“I think it is a piece that would interest the people of Lacock, in particular, but you never know how these sorts of things will go.”

Auctioneer Gordon Brockman is very impressed by how well maintained the dolls house is and the intricate details of its interior.

He said: “It is an incredible build and wonderfully decorated.

“Just look at the hallway, there are excellent examples with a miniature mirror and portrait pictures adorning the walls.

“Some of the furniture is expected to do well on its own as there are well-made miniature models of a tin bath, snooker table, piano and fireplaces as well as many more.

“I am sure it will do well and we have put an estimate on it of £300 to £500.”

The collectors sale will begin at 10am on Saturday at the auctioneers in Ivy Road.
