Marlborough man in court accused of rape

A Marlborough man accused of raping a woman has been released on bail after appearing before a judge at the crown court.

Simon Plank, of Purlyn Acre, is accused of carrying out the sex offence in Swindon on October 22 last year.

No charge was formally put to the 40-year-old during the brief hearing at Swindon Crown Court and he did not enter a plea.

Judge Euan Ambrose adjourned the case until Friday, April 20, when the defendant is due to indicate whether he is guilty or not guilty to the charge.

He released Plank on bail on condition he does not have contact with the complainant or go to a region of Swindon.
