Shelley Rudman’s two greatest supporters her mum and dad, Jack and Josie, stayed up to watch her win the skeleton bob world championship in America last night and this morning they were still on a high over their daughter’s success.
Mr and Mrs Rudman, who live close to the village’s railway station, said they knew Shelly was on track to do well but they had been worried when she sustained a back injury earlier in the week.
Mrs Rudman said: “Jack told her to work at it and not to give up and we stayed up last night to watch her win and we were absolutely delighted when she became the new world champion.”
Mrs Rudman said that although Shelley – whose daughter Ella-Marie had flown out to Calgary earlier in the week with her other grandparents – had won the European title in the past this was her first world title.
The mother said: “Jack and I were talking about it and we could not think of any other world champions from Wiltshire.”
Mr and Mrs Rudman have dedicated much of their lives towards their daughter’s success, helped her initially train to be a sprinter and supported her when she changed over to skeleton bob.
They were in Turin to cheer their daughter on when she won Silver in the 2006 Winter Olympics.
Mrs Rudman said this morning she and her husband were thrilled when Shelley announced that she was dedicating her latest win to them.
