St John's sixth former Alexandra Ford will be singing with the Jazz Mash 5 band at the school’s Beat the Winter Blues and Jazz Evening on Saturday.
The jazz evening will be raising money towards the Phase 2 Appeal to raise £350,000 for an all-weather pitch, tennis and netball courts.
Alexandra, 17, who lives in Collingbourne Ducis, was encouraged to take up jazz singing by her piano teacher Jacqui Macbeth.
The event will include two bands, Jazz in Mind and Jazz Mash 5 and the songs from Alexandra, who has been singing with the band for two years, will include Baker Street, Autumn Leaves and Summertime. Alexandra, who is studying four A-levels, said: “I have been singing since I was three.
“I get a buzz out of performing live, so if I am lucky enough to be able to do this as a career it would be a dream come true.”
Older brother Adam, 19, is also into music and is studying the subject at the University of Middlesex.
The jazz night will take place in the school’s Theatre on the Hill, from 7.30pm to 11pm. For tickets, costing £20 and including supper, call 07789 957746.
