One of the most important functions for retirement and nursing homes is making sure that the elderly residents are helped and encouraged to keep their dignity, says Mandi Short, who manages Merlin Court, one of the two biggest residential homes in Marlborough.
On Friday the home in Hyde Lane celebrated National Dignity Day with a host of activities for its residents to take part in.
These ranged from gentle yoga, led by Lizzie Hawnt, to skittles and floor dominoes.
Ms Short said: “We have a range of activities all the time and it’s all about freedom of choice.
“We talk to the residents about what they would like to participate in.”
As well as physical activities Merlin Court also organises events to tax residents’ minds including quiz nights.
