Three charities that look after the welfare of older people in Wiltshire have joined forces in a collaboration that could be the future for such organisations.

Age UK Wiltshire and Wiltshire Blind Association, both with headquarters in Devizes, and the Trowbridge-based Wiltshire Mind, this week announced they have come together to form Wiltshire CIC, Collaboration of Independent Charities.

Mike Weston, chairman of trustees of Age UK Wiltshire, which has spearheaded the move, said it would benefit all the people of Wiltshire.

He said: “Often in the past older people have been left waiting while the different agencies are informed of their problem.

“Joined up thinking is the order of the day and we will able to work more quickly, more efficiently and to the benefit of all concerned by pooling our resources.

“There might also be benefits in sharing premises and back-office services and we are looking into that. Times are very tough for all charities at the moment and any economies we can make will be better for all of us.

“I have to stress that we will all remain independent charities. We are not looking to lose any staff. Wiltshire CIC will launch its own website soon.”
