Hundreds of people enjoyed olde-worlde activities and entertainments at the Potterne Medieval Fayre at the weekend.

It is the third year that the Chandler family of Five Lanes Farm have organised the community event, run by volunteers.

Visitors were thrilled at a pushbike jousting tournament, this year won by Adam Chandler, alias the Black Knight. They were also able to try their hand at archery while the more adept vied for the Five Lanes Trophy. The archery competition raised £50 for Help for Heroes.

There were some very real looking Vikings roaming around and visitors were able to sample some traditional ale at the Thirsty Deer Tavern.

A big hit with young and old was the falconry display and there were all kinds of traditional crafts to see. Ferret racing also proved popular as were the reptiles on display.

A coconut shy raised money for Prostate Cancer.

Farmer John Chandler said: “It was a lot of hard work but well worth it. When you see young children running around in the sunshine enjoying themselves it makes it all worthwhile.

“A lot of people dressed up for the occasion and I would like to thank them for that. Also we could not have done this without the help of our band of willing volunteers.

“It is not a money-making venture. We just about cover our costs. It is just for fun and I think people really appreciate that.”
