Erlestoke prisoner escapes on a tractor

An Erlestoke jail prisoner escaped on a tractor but was caught just 20 minutes into his getaway after being spotted by a former member of staff.

The inmate used the prison's own tractor to make his getaway but was spotted by the ex-staff memeber on the A361.

The escapee stopped to his change clothes but then set off again as police gave chase across a golf course and finally cornered the vehicle.

The man was taken to Melksham police station at Semington.

Well hurahh for a good try. He should have gone off road immediately and not used the main road. Still, at least he will have a good anecdote to tell at the next dinner party he holds.

High-powered police cars chasing a tractor... over a golf course... brilliant! How long the chase go on for? If it went on for a few miles on the road and there was a build-up of chasing police cars behind the tractor, one wonders if the intrepid escapee will now be facing a further charge of not pulling over to allow the police cars to pass?

Once cornered and taken to Melksham Police Station, let's hope he then didn't have the crap kicked out of him.

he would have been in much more trouble if he ploughed the golf course!

I would hope the tractor CD player was blaring the A-Team theme tune as he knocked the gates down.

Surely the Wurzels would have been more appropriate?
