Swindon finished their Berks, Bucks & Oxon One season with a 36-8 win at Chesham on Saturday, which left them fourth in the league, although whether they are promoted depends on league restructuring.

They opened with a penalty in the first two minutes which was converted by flanker Scott Chapman.

The home side responded with a try, but Swindon reacted in positive fashion and, after the forwards sucked in the defence, the ball was shipped to the backs for fly-half Connal Knott to get the touchdown.

Chesham again came back, but the defence held out and the home side settled for a penalty to leave the score 10-8 to the visitors at half-time.

The second half was dominated by the visitors and Chapman was the first to cross for a try.

Skipper Paul Wakefield got the next after his side gained good field position in the opposition 22.

From a scrum, the forwards tried a back row move which was disrupted, and scrappy ball was fed out to Wakefield, who broke through several tackles before touching down under the posts. Chapman converted.

From the restart, Chesham kicked deep to try and pin the visitors in their own half, but unfortunately picked out Swindon No 8 Nick Warren.

He surged forward and was finally stopped close to halfway, but was still able to pop to supporting flanker Paul Daniels, who outpaced the covering defence.

Swindon left the best until last however, with skipper Wakefield finishing off an excellent team move.

Chesham kicked long from the restart and again found Warren waiting.

He made good yards and was able to offload in the tackle to fly-half Knott, who released the midfield.

Inside centre Jamie Whatcott powered 40 metres upfield, drew the defence and passed to fellow centre Wakefield, who stepped inside and had a clear run to the posts to finish the game in style.
