STEVE Jenkins has sorted out his own dodgy constitution and insists Town's players still have the stomach for the play-off fight.

The experienced defender knows plenty of people are queuing up to dismiss Andy King's men but the players themselves are not among that number.

A poll on the Evening Advertiser's Swindon Town website makes for gloomy reading with more than 80 per cent of those logging on feeling that the top six is now out of reach.

However, yesterday's training session included an informal chat between King and his players to hammer home the point that all is not lost.

Jenkins feels Town might actually benefit from the pessimism in some quarters.

He said: "People can write us off but we're not bothered about that.

"Sometimes it can actually help in a funny sort of way. It takes the pressure off you.

"You go into your first match and win that one, you go into the second one and get a result there.

"People are enjoying their football and not necessarily worrying about what is at stake.

"Before you know it, you find yourselves back in it.

"Maybe that's the way we have to look at it.

"Four of our remaining six matches are at home and that can only help us I think.

"We have to see it as having a six-game season and that success in that season will give us 75 points.

"That should be enough to get us into the play-offs. We just have to go for it."

Jenkins also points to the fact that Town have been written off at least twice before this season, only to be handed reprieves.

He said: "We've been out of things a couple of times but then all of a sudden we're back in. Hopefully there'll be a third opportunity for us."

Jenkins just hopes he will have the opportunity to make the dream come true.

He missed Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Hartlepool United having been taken ill before the game.

Jenkins said: "To be honest it came on really suddenly just after two o'clock. I'm not sure what caused it but I suspect it was something I'd eaten. I felt terrible and had to drop out of the team."

Jenkins admitted the following 90 minutes did little to make him feel any better.

However, the focus is on looking forward not back.

He said: "There's a good, honest bunch of lads at this club and we will give it all we've got.

"The season is 46 games and not 40 games. We're all aware of that."

A YOUNG Town side lost a thrilling Wiltshire Premier Shield final against Chippenham at the County Ground last night.

Town led 3-0 at the break but lost 6-4 after extra time.
