BAFTA actress waiting for break

Aspiring actress Katherine Clisby is hoping her first film's BAFTA nomination will boost her fledgling acting career.

Katherine, 21, from Chippenham, stared alongside big name actors Ray Winstone and Jan Graveson in the critically acclaimed film Everything, produced by Kandu Arts and shortlisted for the Carl Foreman Award at last week's glitzy film and television celebration.

Katherine went to school at Sheldon, joined the North Wiltshire Young People's Theatre Group, and then attended the Bath College of Performing Arts before landing the role of a Russian girl forced into prostitution in the film.

She said she was stunned when the film was short listed for the awards and could hardly believe her eyes when she saw a clip played on BBC1 during the awards ceremony on Sunday last week.

"It was amazing. I found out from a friend of a friend it had been short listed, and it was so exciting watching it on television," she said.

Katherine is staying in London at the moment, with a day job as a massage therapist and working as a waitress while she looks for her next big break. She is hoping the success of Everything will help her get an agent.

She was 18 when she performed in the film, and afterwards she went on to star in a production called Radio Play, at the Edinburgh Festival and on tour.

Katherine, whose parents Bernie and Charles Clisby live on the Pewsham estate, said she would love to be a successful actress on stage or screen.

"I absolutely love doing both," she said.

"It was brilliant working with Ray Winstone and Jan Graveson, and so much fun. I was fresh from college and it was an amazing experience. They were such nice people. I'd known Jan for a while and I love all Ray's films."
