WORLD record breaking athlete Mike Buss is preparing to embark on his latest adventure.

Mike, 35, a former-soldier from Highworth is attempting to run 100 marathons in 100 days on treadmills in more than 15 towns and cities around the UK.

In what will be his longest and potentially toughest challenge to date, Mike thinks he has what it takes to complete the endurance feat.

He said: “I’ll be running 26.2 miles a day – which will be 2,620 miles in 100 days.

“I plan to run for about four or five hours per day. That will allow me plenty of rest periods.

“I don’t think anyone has run 100 marathons in 100 days before. I like the feeling of the unknown.

“I’ve run 20 hours every day for seven days and ran for up to 36 hours before, but never ran over this length of time.”

In a warm-up to the main event Mike will leave Swindon at 1am and run throughout the night to arrive at the start line of the Brighton Marathon, just in time to start with all the other competitors next month.

After crossing the finish line Mike will continue running 57 miles to London. He will then stay in the capital for the rest of the week and prepare for the London Marathon.

Again after crossing that finish line, he will carry on running back to Swindon. In total he will run 320 miles between April 18 and 25.

Mike intends to start the first of his 100 marathons in Swindon on Wednesday, June 16, and finish on Thursday, September 23, at the NEC near Birmingham during Leisure Industry Week.

Each location has not yet been confirmed, but two of the Swindon sites could be Faringdon Park and a hangar at RAF Lyneham’s base with the backdrop of a Hercules aircraft.

Mike has also planned the daily challenges around England’s progress in this summer’s football World Cup in South Africa.

But if he is running during the time of an important match he has made sure a TV will be close by.

Mike is then planning a well deserved family holiday to Florida’s Walt Disney World in October.

He hopes to raise £1 million for the military charity Help For Heroes by 2014.
