Trainee mechanic Daniel Sheppard from Bromham has spoken of his shock and delight at being named Apprentice of the Year.
The 20-year-old who works at Curry’s Motors in Bath Road, Devizes, could scarcely believe his ears when his name was read out at the Wiltshire College awards ceremony at the Arc Theatre in Trowbridge.
He said: “I knew I was likely to get the motor apprentice award but to win the overall prize was a total shock. My boss, Nick Hale, had a smile all over his face.
“My little sister, Rhiannon, had come along with me and she was screaming. It was great.”
Mr Hale said: “What a great evening. Daniel has come a long way from the start of his apprenticeship and it’s been a steep learning curve.
“It is a great incentive for employers to be able to see how employing an apprentice can bring great rewards.
“Daniel has nearly finished his MOT course with us and has a bright future ahead of him.”
