Wiltshire councillors on the Northern Area Planning Committee have given permission for a home extension in Malmesbury despite planning officers recommending it be refused.
The owner of the Trucklebridge property in Foxley Road, Malmesbury, Richard Jefferson, will now be able to demolish an existing annexe that sat on the roadside and build a plant room to store equipment needed for solar panels and an air source heat pump.
During the nearly five hour meeting, committee chairman Anthony Trotman agreed to move the case forward for the benefit of Mr Jefferson’s heavily pregnant wife.
Coun Trotman said: “I suspect there isn’t anyone in this room who could deliver your baby if you went into labour.”
Mr Jefferson said the views of both to and from his house would be improved.
He said: “We are lucky to be in such a beautiful location.
“We do have very fine views into the town and we believe this proposal will also improve the views of our home from the road.”
Despite planning officers suggesting the extensions were out of scale with the existing building councillors gave permission.
Coun Alan Hill said: “I applaud the applicants use of sustainable equipment which is no doubt expensive.”
