Devizes opticians say thanks for toys

Staff at Devizes opticians Specsavers have thanked customers for dropping in 13 shoeboxes filled with goodies for Operation Christmas Child.

The shoeboxes will be delivered to under privileged children in eastern European countries.

Karen Carvello, director of the store in The Brittox, said: “We are so grateful to our customers who were able to send in donations for children who don’t have much to celebrate over the festive season.

“We asked customers to donate either a filled shoebox or individual gifts such as a scarf, toy, soap or toothbrush.”

Operation Christmas Child is the UK's largest children's Christmas appeal and has been running for over 19 years. Last year it sent over 1.2 million shoeboxes packed full of gifts to children.
