Cats abandoned in Chippenham need new home

Animal-lovers are being urged to come forward to adopt two cats who were dumped on the doorstep of a veterinary practice in Chippenham on Thursday night.

The cats were found in a cardboard box outside the Walters, McFadyen and Lloyd practice in Bristol Road at 11pm, with just a cover to protect them from the wind and rain.

If staff had not been working late carrying out emergency surgery the cats - an eight-month-old female tabby, and a one-year-old black male - would have been at the mercy of the elements overnight.

Veterinary nurse Jo Lopez said: “We were doing emergency surgery and we noticed there was a box by the door.

“If we had not been there they would have been out there all night.

“They did have a cover over them, but they were very cold and wet.

”We are looking for someone to re-home these cats, who were left outside the office in a box.

“It is really hard to find people to take animals at this time of year, but we really hope someone will come forward.”

When staff opened the box, along with two shivering cats they found a note from their previous owner.

Miss Lopez said: “There was a note, but it didn’t say much.

“It said ‘I have lost my job and I have lost my house, so please can you look after my cats.’ “It also said that they have been sprayed and neutered, but that was about it.”

In September staff were delighted to find a home for Jess, a cat found dumped on the side of a road with her four kittens.

Owners for the kittens were found straight away, but it took more than a month for a couple to come forward and take Jess.

Ve terinary nurse Lyndsey Jefferies said: “We would urge anyone who is struggling with their pets and feels they cannot look after them anymore, to take them to a rehoming centre."

Anyone interested in adopting the cats can call Walters, McFadyen and Lloyd on (01249) 653181.
