We Love the angels on stilts in Marlborough

10:46am Thursday 19th November 2009

Juggling snowmen, stilt-walking angels and all the fun of the fair will surround the switching on of Marlborough’s Christmas lights next Thursday, thanks to sponsorship from investment managers Brewin Dolphin.

The company with offices in The Parade has agreed to underwrite the cost of the event, taking place from 3pm on November 26.

Dubbed We Love Christmas, the event is being organised by We Love Marlborough in partnership with the chamber of commerce and the Christmas Lights Association.

Events include a Santa’s grotto and an art market in the town hall. Meanwhile a troupe of street entertainers, including stilt-walking angels and juggling snowmen, will entertain the crowds, while festive foods, including a hog roast, will be available around the town centre.

Many shops will be opening until 8pm – an hour after the Christmas lights are turned on – allowing families to browse at leisure.

The highlight of the evening is a concert by the opera singer Maria Jagusz in St Peter’s Church. She will be supported by local acts The Song Men and Kennet Accordion Orchestra.

There will also be a disco for under 18s at Azuza in Hughenden Yard, at 7.15pm.

Myles Palmer, divisional director of Brewin Dolphin, said: “We have always supported the Marlborough Christmas lights, but this evening will really highlight the work undertaken by the local community and should benefit the town as a whole.”
