Councillors in Wootton Bassett have finally called time on the faulty clock in the High Street, and have resolved to get it fixed.
The 35-year-old clock, situated outside the HSBC bank in the High Street, broke down several months ago and councillors were faced with the decision of whether to repair or remove it.
The town council, which is responsible for the clock and budgets a small amount each year for its maintenance, discovered that the cost of removal would not be significantly less than repair and has contracted The Cumbria Clock Company Ltd to restore the clock to its former glory by the end of July.
Coun Susan Doyle said: “The clock is so much a part of the town’s High Street and used by all.
“To have it repaired and keeping perfect time is reassuring and will keep it working for the future.”
