A serious car crash has forced police to close a large stretch of the B4069 at Christian Malford.

The accident happened just after 4pm this afternoon and both carriageways are likely to be shut until 6pm tonight.

The collision happened on the junction of the B4069 with Friday Street and motorists are being asked to find an alternative route.

Eye witness Louise Allen said: "We were just approaching the village when we noticed all the cars were slowing down.

"We then had a policeman on a bike coming up to each of the cars telling us to turn around as we could not drive through the village.

"I think something must be seriously wrong from what I could tell.

"I think this will cause traffic problems later as a lot of people use this route to get from Chippenham to Swindon."
