An informative and fun community event for people living in Calne and the surrounding villages will be held on Saturday January 31.

"Your life, your home, your town, your village, your voice…" is the slogan being used to advertise the Five Alive event being held at Marden House in Calne.

As part of the new Wiltshire Council’s pilot area board project the Calne Community Area Partnership is putting on the event, which runs from 11am to 3pm, and has been planned with the all the local community very much in mind.

Everyone who lives and works locally is encouraged to pop in to find out more. Visitors will be able to meet representatives of local organisations such as the police, health, fire & rescue services as well as the town council and other organisations including the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.

Local young people will be represented by the Calne Community Area Young People’s Issue Group and from Coleman's Farm. There will be activities for children attending, a graffiti wall and even a big brother style diary room where people can have a say about things that matter to them and their local community.

The day will also provide local people with opportunities to find out about the Calne community, the new Wiltshire Council and the Calne Area Board, which will enable local people to influence decisions made about the local area.

The Calne Pilot Area Board has been looking at important local issues. One of these has been the dropped kerb project. Local people have had a say on safer town road crossing by telling the council where they think the kerbs need to be dropped. People at the event will be able to find out more and will be able to ‘vote’ for their dropped kerb priority sites.

People will also be able to feed into the review of the community plan so that it reflects the views, desires and needs of people from across the community area.

Jane Vaughan, Project Manager for the Calne Pilot Area Board said: “This promises to be an important day in the calendar for everyone living in the local community area, keeping everyone informed not just about existing initiatives, services and facilities, but also about future developments that have relevance for everyone living in the community”.
