Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service is warning local people and businesses to be on their guard from callers pretending to be fire officers.
An incident happened this week in Swindon where a caller tried to get the keyholder details for a shop, claiming to be from the Fire & Rescue Service.
Area Manager Gus Cuthbert, director of operations, said: “A genuine representative of the Fire & Rescue Service will have identification, either through an ID card or some other form of authorisation. Our advice is to never provide any information about you or your business unless you are absolutely certain that the caller is who they say they are.”
Anyone wanting to check whether someone is a genuine member of staff at the Fire & Rescue Service can ask for the details of a senior manager to contact or they can call (01380) 723601.
