Following the trail of Pocahontas

11:28am Friday 17th August 2001

BROWN shrimps and bread-and-butter were enjoyed by residents and visitors who took part in the Pocahontas Promenade.

The two-hour guided walk along Gravesend's riverside gave people an insight into the history of the town.

Historian Charles Oliver talked about Pocahontas and the smugglers at the Three Daws pub, in West Street.

The trip, which was organised by the Towncentric Visitor Centre, in St George's Square, ended with a traditional Victorian shrimpers' tea at the Crown and Thistle pub, in The Terrace.
